Way Back Wednesday - June 30, 2010

This Week's Topic: What Are Your Favorite Memories From Your Honeymoon?

Unfortunately this post will have to be sans personal pictures because our desktop is fried and I cannot access the external drive all my pictures are on via the laptop. Our honeymoon was wonderful. John's Dad gave us the trip as our wedding gift...awesome! We went on a 7 Day Eastern Caribbean Cruise on the Zuiderdam, a ship part of the Holland America fleet.

We had a room on the Verandah level, which basically means we had a balcony. We had breakfast nearly every morning outside looking out over the caribbean water. Heavenly!

The first stop was at Holland America's private island, Half Moon Cay. Half Moon was one of my favorite places because it was all beach all day. Additionally, I prior to our honeymoon, I read on Cruise Critic that if you ask for the all-you-can-drink special that isn't advertised, they must give it to you. So for $20 each, we drank rum runners ALL DAY.

In St. Thomas we did some shopping and took a tour of the island which ended at the top of the island where we embibed world famous banana daiquiris and enjoyed spectacular views of the island.

In Tortola we took a jeep tour of the island and spent the afternoon at a private beach. The sand and waves are like none other in the Caribbean. I think we liked Tortola the most because it was less commercialised than other destinations.

All in all it was a spectacular honeymoon with beautiful scenery and once in a lifetime excursions. Though not without mishaps. Like our camera breaking halfway through the trip, meaning we lost most of our pictures; a day of HUGE waves and getting seasick before we were supposed to go to a Halloween party as pirates--take your seacalm people. Most of all though, we enjoyed being newly married and spending every minute together.

Family Photo Friday

In an attempt to jumpstart my writing habit (I do call my self a writer afterall) I am going to attempt to blog every day...even if it means just posting a picture and writing a few sentences of description. I'm not going to beat myself up if my Two Under Two prevent me from logging on, and the writing may not be the quality or style of my comp and rhetoric courses back in the day at VCU, but if it gets me writing again, I'll take it. In an effort to make the process a little easier, I thought it would be fun to have a daily theme for the blog. Friday will be Family Photo and, since I have already joined the Way Back Wednesday blog hop, Wednesday is taken care of. I'll figure out the other days of the week, well, next week.

I thought it would be fun to post both "first photos" of Nicolaus and Carleigh. Can you tell who is who? In person the pictures look even more similar. I actually wrote the info on the back of the prints just to make sure I never forget. Looking at the two of them everyday, I do not see immediate similarities, but in pictures I see they have the same chin, the same mouth, the same eyes. I look forward to seeing how they grow and how both similar and different they become.

My friend in the kitchen

The crockpot is my friend. Right now perhaps even my best friend. How wonderful it is to throw together a few things in the morning and by 5:30-ish, voila! Dinner! And not to mention leftovers. Leftovers are my friends too. Leftovers mean minimal mess in the kitchen and with Two under Two I have plenty of mess to clean up without even going into the kitchen. We've been eating at least two crock pot meals a week since Carleigh was born. I have found several recipes here. In fact, tonight we will enjoy Asian Chicken in a Crock. So if you have a faveorite Crock recipe to share, please do, and you too will be my friend in the kitchen.

**Note: If you make the Asian Chicken, I would either use fresh veggies or add the frozen veggies about 1/2 or 3/4 of the way through.

Way Back Wednesday

I've decided to join a blog hop I discovered on one of the blogs I follow. This week's theme is Favorite Memories From Your Wedding. Goodness! I cannot really choose because I wouldn't change a thing about our wedding, but I have shared a few fond memories via pictures below. Hopefully this post will bring back memories to some of our family and friends who shared the day with us. It is hard to believe over 5 years have passed since then!

I love the Fall and our colors were perfect for an October wedding.

All our amazing family and friends who came to support us on our special day which turned out to be COLD! (and not to mention rainy and muddy after a beautiful ceremony)

The dance with my Dad

My amazing and sexy husband
Our moment alone after saying "I do."
I call this my Estee Lauder picture because it reminds me of the print ads for perfume in magazines. My little nieces were too cute as flower girls!
